I'm still around, still writing, and still wondering why I hang around the furry fandom. I'm not exactly the type you'd think would get invovled in anything like that. I'm a disturbingly 'normal' example of the male of the human species. I mean, RL has an unbreakable hold on me. I work long hours as a mechanic, I have an old house that I'm in the process of renovating. I have an old car in the garage that I've heavily modified for drag racing use, I have a dog, I have a bunch of RL friends that I hang out and have fun with and I'm lucky if I can get on my computer more than a three or four times a week to squeeze in some writing time and see what's been happening in the online world. I don't fursuit, I don't yiff, I don't RP and I've never really felt like I belong in the fandom.
I've come to realize over the last few years that I'm not really much of a fur.
That being said, I've always had a connection with canines in general and wolves in particular. Maybe that's why I have some small interest in furry. Maybe it's the stories I've read and the stories I'm writing that keep me hanging around the fringes of the fandom. I'm a quiet guy as it is, a thoughtful introvert that tends to observe more than participate. There are only a few people that I keep in contact with online. Sometimes I wish I did participate more, but it's tough for me to take the first steps to do it. Time, as always, is a factor in that respect but so is my rather quiet manner. I tend to wait for other people to make the first move...
Y'know, I probably wouldn't still be hanging around here if I hadn't been inspired to start writing five long years ago. I still find that hard to believe. Me, an author of furry fiction? Seems crazy when I think about it. Yet hear I am, five years later with three novels in progress that have actually become fairly popular among a small group of people. That I wrote something that someone else actually read and liked has been one of the biggest surprises of my life to date...
Enough introspective rambling. I'm gonna go walk down to the 7/11 and get a cup of coffee.
Current Music: thoughtful silence...
10th December 200310:54pm: {all} Success! Chapter 7 of WRC for anthrofiction.com is finally done! Yeah, I know it's only been like seven months or so. I have really got to find a way to free up more time to write. I'm going to let the new chapter stew for a couple of days and then do a final revision before I send it in to Steve. Hopefully he'll find a way to post it relatively soon. He seems to be even busier than I am these days.
Next on the agenda is chapter 10 Of WRC for my site, then chapter 3 of 'The Gift'. Hopefully it won't be another seven months until those are done...
8th December 20038:42pm: {all} Well, as you can see, I'm trying out a new journal. If all goes well, I'll likely end up moving all of my ramblings from blogger to here.
What's new?
Not much. The threat of being unemployed still looms like storm on the horizon, but recently things at the shop have taken a turn for the better. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all will go well for at least a few more months...
I did manage to get a bunch of writing done this weekend. I had hoped to finish chapter 7 of 'Wild Rose Country' for anthrofiction.com, but I came up a little short when a couple of friends came by and dragged me away from the computer to go play some pool. With any luck I'll have done before the weekend. I'm getting a little overdue on posting some new material on that storyline...
