Just reformatted my hard drive for the second time in a night... damn I hate microsux! Given up on the Dual boot Linux/Windows scenario and stuck with Linux, even if it's slow

Aww. I know how that feels though, to be honest if it wasn't for all these games I enjoy I'd be with you on a Linux-only computer. As it is, I'll support open-source in my own ways. By advocating the open-sourcery of everything but the OS itself.

Bwee, with the amount of people I've got to use Firefox though, I firmly believe that I've done my bit for that community.

Still, it's a grand thing is open-source, it's the only software I feel /clean/ using. Even Windows xp leaves me feeling a bit dirty, even if it is better coded than any other Windows out there.

Dammit, I wish games companies would support Linux more.

Well, even if the companies don't support Linux ther are various tools out there that make *some* windows games run on Linux. Some examples are Wine, VMware and Win4Lin, even though the latter two require a full version of windows to be sitting on the HD, they just exploit it for running games whilst you're still using the Linux OS. As for me, I can't afford commercial games most of the time and if you look hard enough there's some great Linux ones out there.

Indeedy. I tend to follow http://www.happypenguin.org/ myself and I know of the gems out there, like Wesnoth and Neverball.

Yet sometimes I crave story and games like Beyond Good and Evil give that to me (with liberal amounts of furryness) and there are times when I enjoy playing MMORPGs, like Final Fantasy XI. I know I could do this on consoles but I tend to never touch those things unless I /have/ to.

There are great open source games out there, to be sure -- but they don't fill every aspect of my intellectual cravings. Unlike software. All my software is GPL-happy. ^.^

*nods* yeah, that is a sux0r, open source games have a major problem where providing plot is concerned, and I agree, the Konsole is a b***h! As for MMORPGs, I can get quite a bit of goodness for free out of Runescape (classic, the newer one won't run even under windows on this thing), but the graphics truely suck compared to the commercial games.

Indeed, I've noticed that a lot of people in the entertainment industry (especially creative people) are downright greedy. That's not as bad here in furry-land as most of our artists seem to have confidence issues, thusly they don't overcharge for their work.

Yet in almost every official area of entertainment, creative people are greedy buggers. Not soulless, not in the least but very greedy. We have a lot of incredibly skilled people in open-source land. Good samaritans and incredibly skilled...

But they're not as creative as some of those people backing up commercial projects, thusly that's where the best stories lie and I do love a good story.

Anyway, speaking of free online roleplaying games, I know of a couple myself. Planeshift is rather nifty (http://www.planeshift.it/) but it would be a heck of a lot better if they'd start introducing some more crafting skills and maybe a battle system.

On the flipside, Daimonin (http://www.daimonin.net/) is pretty decent, it has combat and all that shiz, it's just rather lacking in races.

Both are looking rather good but they have a long way to go yet, still, I've been watching them with a keen eye. Planeshift could get very good, very quickly if they get all the core code out of the way that they're planning to.
The post above? Marvellous. Absolutely marvellous.
